Campaign: Custom Fields

Depending on the nature of your campaign, you may want to collect additional data from your donors during the donation process or supporters when creating Giving Opportunities.

Custom Field Types

There are two types of custom fields.

  • Donation Fields - Used to collect additional information from donors during checkout.
  • Campaign Fields - Used to collect additional information from supporters creating Giving Opportunities

Custom Donation Fields

Custom donation fields give you the opportunity to collect additional data from donors during checkout. These fields help you create opportunities for a donor to leave a message, note a donation is in memoriam of someone, or get a t-shirt size.

Creating/editing your Custom Donation Fields

  1. From the Dashboard, select the campaign you want to edit, then click on the Edit Campaign Button from the Campaign Overview tab.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will see the Custom Fields section. Click on the “Edit” button.
  3. Next, click on the “Add a Field” button and select the kind of field you would like to create: single text or drop-down.
  4. Make sure you hit the “Save” button before you navigate away from the page, after you are done making your changes.

Field Types

Single line text fields are for gathering information that your donors write in their own words.

You can use drop-down selection fields if you want your donors to pick from a list of options. In the field area, add in only one option per line. They will show up as separate options in a drop-down on the donation page.

Use the field label to state your question or inquiry.

Accessing the data collected from Custom Donation Fields

Any information from the custom fields will get stored in your Donation Log. When you download the log file, the data from the fields will be there along with the donation amount and the name of the individual or the organization who made the donation.

Making Custom Donation Fields Inactive

If you need to, you can edit existing campaigns and make a Custom Donation Field inactive by toggling the check mark icon to display an “X”. This will no longer display the field in the hosted checkout form and will communicate an inactive status in the API; however, any data collected for this field will still be available in the API or exported Donation Log.

Custom Campaign Fields

Campaign Fields are designed to allow you to collect and record additional data related to your Giving Opportunities. Let’s say you included a form on your website to create a team and you want to know whom is creating the team. You can create Campaign Fields when setting up your campaign to require name and email when creating a Giving Opportunity.
